Will Smaller Retailers Be Forced out of the Gaming Notebook Sector Too

Filed under: Technology Tips — @ 3:02 am

I remember an era where laptops for gaming were a niche breed. Sure they were never manufactured in big qty’s but system builders did generate a lot of money on them. These were the kind of laptop computers wanted by all but the expense was just too prohibitive. Everyone reckoned they were the best laptops and justifiably so. Although they did get everybody excited I don’t think they sold in volumes because not many people actually buy laptops that are costly. As of late it seems bigger manufacturers are all entering the sector very rapidly and things are shifting.

In my point of view they would get away by selling them at an increased price if they desired. It is surely a great option to bigger profit margins. In my view established manufacturers can employ leverage to influence prospects to buy laptops regardless of the price. I bet smaller manufacturers are very concerned about this. In my view the tier 1 brands will control the market trends. Plainly the association of a well known brand name comes in here.

To my astonishment the brand name gaming laptops are as good if not better than the best laptops available. This certainly will provide a bit of encouragement to the local companies. From time to time the smaller companies are able to supply new parts quicker and so give higher specifications too. I guess the guys that purchase laptops for gaming generally know what they are looking for. Sometimes the specs matter than the style for these sort of buyers.

This would be quite advantageous from the consumers standpoint. In the near future premium technology for your investment will be the outcome for this niche. Do not quote me on that though as other things can take place in the notebook computer sector. High prices will stay and be expected with the best laptops is what I am guessing. As the gaming notebook niche gets saturated with large manufacturers, the majority will apply a wait and see tactic.

How Much Is It Worth? Estimating Your Item’s Value for Sale on eBay

Filed under: Web Stuff — @ 1:56 pm

Proper pricing of items to be listed for sale on eBay is one of the most important aspects of generating interest in one’s auction listing.

If the price is too high, interest will be low, and the possibility of a sale decreases.

If the price is too low, the seller generates enormous traffic, yet the final bid might be too low to satisfy the seller’s need for a profit.

The following are steps that will aid in that process.

Step 1: How Much Was this Item Originally Worth

First of all, one must find out how much the item was when it was bought. This helps the seller set realistic goals as to how much he will expect to profit from that item.

The seller must remember that the going price for that item nowadays will be different from its original price. And depending on the demand for that item, he may get a price that is better, or worse than the original price.

The seller must also come to an acceptance of the fact that the buying power of today’s $1 is different from that of ten years ago.

Step 2: Do a Little Research

Sellers should research on the current price of similar items. This gives them a good standard as to how much they should price their wares. Searching eBay for successful auctions of similar wares is the best way to do this.

Step 2: How Much Has the Item Depreciated?

The seller must check the item for damages and other irregularities from a mint conditioned item of the same kind. He must then deduct a reasonable amount from his asking price. Wear and tear tends to bring down the price of an item considerably. It is wise to make sure the items are repaired, or spruced up before being auctioned.

Step 3: Start It a Little Lower than Usual

It is wise to start an auction a step or two (or even three) lower than a sellers intended price. This generates interest in the item. It may be hard to believe, but auctions that start lower than its intended price actually have a better chance at overshooting that intended price.

Professional opinions are available if the seller is in doubt of the value of his or her item. Third party appraisal companies help in this regard. A list of such is available at the Authentication & Grading link under Protection and Authentication on eBay.

A Greek Tradition

Filed under: Adventure Stuff, The Travelers Trail — @ 3:11 am

Cyprus is an island with strong greek traditions, but its great all year round sun is what attracts most of us, which has made it a very popular destination for Europeans, with over 2.4 million visiting its many resorts. Cyprus basks is more than 330 clorious days of sun each year, which has given it the name The Island of the Sun. With plenty of travel agents able to arrange Cyprus holidays and budget airlines such as Easyjet offering routes to Paphos and Larnaca, there has never been a better time to visit.

While attracting visitors from around the world, most of them tend to be Europeans. In recent years Russians and Poles have become poolside regulars alongside the French, Germans and, of course, us Brits.. The British Armed Forces have long has a presence in Cyprus. The UK retains a military base in order to have a gateway for forces to the Middle East. The impact of this on the surrounding area is that Cypriots have grown used to, and in turn, now cater for the Brits. From English being spoken everywhere you go, to driving on the left side of the road. A major attraction for many Brit tourists is that the island offers all of the comforts and familiarities of home, but we also get to bask in the sun.

Much of olden Cyprus is giving away to culture that is more eclectic and less traditional. However, this side of Cyprus, that continues to attract millions of tourists year after year, is only one aspect of the island and is concentrated around the tourist hotspots of Paphos, Larnaca and Ayia Napa. Fortunately as you venture off the beaten track, your are soon reminded of the character that has made this island a popular destination for millennia.

Its worth tearing yourself away from the beach and visiting the Troodod Mountains if you can. In the heart of the mountains you will find the Kykkos monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1998. Housing art and exhibits on ancient Greece, the monastery has the twin function of being a museum for visitors and a practising monastery lived in by worshiping monks. If you are a wine lover, there are treats in store for you. A daytrip to the Troodos Mountains can be a welcome change from the beach and with overnight accommodation available in many of the authentic villages dotted about; you might want to spend a few days here sampling another side of Cyprus.

The Papaya Man (of Lima, Peru)

Filed under: The Travelers Trail — @ 4:25 am

The Papaya Man, He carts his fruits and vegetables around with an antique motorcycle-drawn-cart: papayas, grapes, oranges, this and that, so forth and on. He broadcasts his coming from house to house by way of a loudspeaker: up and down and around my casa [my house], in San Juan Miraflores (Lima, Peru): he looks up at me, as I’m looking down at him, from my second story window, he stops…got my attention, he is better than a security guard, knows what is happening around him.

He wears a blue rosary around his thick brown neck, short in stature, broad and robust; he looks kindly at my wife, now looking at the fruit and vegetables: he picks out the biggest and most yellowish-green papayaweights it, he is smiling; ah! he made the sale, blessed be to the rosary.

He then starts his motor-cart back up again (it is 11:30 AM); not sure how it stirs, no handlebars, but nonetheless, he stirs it away, and down the street he sways, hands on the side of the cart…! The moment has passed, God has feed, both him and my wife, and perhaps me tonight!

#1287 3/24/2006 Note by the author. The nice thing about Peru, and Lima, is the old traditions are still alive, especially if you live here; the Papaya Man, the Bread Man, the Soda man, and so for and so on, come around and sell their goods, like it used to be back in the United States in the 50s.

Growing a successful business, living the flexible lifestyle, and the possibility of financial freedom are great reasons to start your own home based business. This article will give you some great tips on getting your home based business started.

First, set up a special working space in your home. This can be a small bedroom, your kitchen table, part of your garage, or the corner of the living room. This is where you are going to build your home based business.

Next, gather all the materials that you need to run your business. You want to have easy access to all the tools, materials, and resources that you need to run your business. Keep everything close at hand. This will prevent you from wasting time, having to search for what you need.

Decide what hours and days that you will work, when you will market, when you will provide your services or products to clients.

Plan, plan, plan. Planning is one of the greatest keys to success in your business. Set measurable goals with specific time frames. Think of all the steps that you need to take to make these goals a reality and get working towards them. Even a small step is a step in the right direction.

Network like crazy. One of the fastest ways to grow any business is to make connections with other people. Be sure to share your passion and enthusiasm with others at every opportunity. Let people know who you are and what you offer. Remember, people can’t buy if they don’t know you’re selling.

Present a professional image. If you want to be treated professionally, present a professional image. Set up a separate bank account for your business. Install a separate phone and fax line. Create professional marketing materials. Be courteous and pleasant in all your customer facing interactions. Basically, be someone people want to do business with.

Automate your business as much as possible. Granted, you are just one person (right now) and might have a lot of extra time to take care of all the details. This might work for now, but won’t work into the future as you get busier and busier. It’s best to set up automatic systems and processes right from the start to free up your time to concentrate on the most profitable activities.

The key is to be persistent. Don’t get discouraged. It is easy to get discouraged when you are first starting. Just keep at it. God bless. Jesus loves you.

    Ford Motor Company and PR

Filed under: The Travelers Trail — @ 8:24 am

Recently the Ford Motor Company and the Gay and Lesbian Community voting block got into a tiff. The Gay and Lesbian Community threatened to boycott Ford Products and not at a very good time in the company’s history either considering the current US Automaker trends. So what should Ford do now?

Ford Motor Company should immediately give one new car to every homosexual in America, because they cancelled their ads in a homosexual magazine, never mind they cut 80% of all their magazine ads to cut advertising costs. Let’s make it up in reparations to the homosexual community as many may have had their ancestors also slighted in some way.

Additionally Ford Motor Company should pay legal costs to get gay marriage going in all states and open strictly Gay and Lesbian Night Clubs where no one else is allowed. Ford must pay just like any other corporate entity that is attacked by a group. We must destroy their brand name and sue them up the gazzoo.

If Ford fails to give every Gay and Lesbian a new free car we must shut them down to protect the rights of all Americans. Don’t you agree, wouldn’t that solve the problem? Consider all this in 2006.

    Making VoIP Perform as Advertised

Filed under: The Travelers Trail — @ 9:30 am

The promise of lower cost has motivated many enterprises to move their voice traffic to the enterprise IP wide area network (WAN). Many have discovered, however, that Voice over IP (VoIP) quality does not always meet business use standards.

In addition, as VoIP is introduced to the network, the performance of other business-critical applications — already at risk given growing Web/Internet traffic — begins to deteriorate. The challenge is to assure the performance of real-time VoIP calls while protecting business data that requires immediate response times, in a manner that optimizes the efficiency of the WAN.

The growth in real-time and interactive business traffic that requires immediate response mandates a layer of application-aware control that intelligently links the performance requirements of a growing mix of converged data, VoIP and video applications with available network resources in a manner that assures an optimal user experience.

This application-aware, traffic-management solution should work with the existing IP network, and should assure the performance of individual VoIP calls and application flows. Policies should be accurate and application-aware, and tuning performance in both the inbound and outbound directions should be possible to ensure the integrity of each user connection.

Users should first know what is currently running on their network so that they can proactively manage the WAN to assure business-critical data and VoIP performance. Traffic should be actively monitored, classified and then assigned policies that assure the required level of performance in the most efficient manner possible.

Intelligent traffic-management policies can be applied to assure the performance of existing business-critical applications (e.g., CRM, SAP), while non-critical traffic is limited in the most efficient manner possible. In most cases, traffic-management policies that specifically guarantee bandwidth and response time for each application session and/or flow are required.

VolP-specific controls should be applied to assure real-time VoIP call performance (e.g., latency, jitter, bandwidth) on a call-by-call basis. This requires granular and accurate enforcement of bandwidth policies and priority control for each individual call. Given that a VoIP call is a two-way exchange, these policies should be enforced in both the inbound and outbound direction.

In addition, because a VoIP session consists of multiple flows (e.g., call setup, call control and call media) each flow should be individually protected to guarantee the integrity of the call. This means the traffic-management solution should be session aware and enforced on a per-flow basis. For example, if the call control information for a single call is compromised by the media traffic, calls may be dropped midstream.

While proactive traffic management provides a first level of control against other applications running on the network, techniques such as packet size optimization and burst control are necessary to manage the impact at a packet level. These are not available when a router alone is used to perform the traffic-management functions.

Call admission control is needed to protect VoIP calls already in progress. This should be network aware (knowledgeable about calls running on the network), with policies that establish directives on what to do when the next call is placed. In addition, the policy-management process should be kept simple, using VolP-aware defaults that apply policies dynamically based on the VoIP protocol, the codec and the number of concurrent calls to be supported.
